THE TIMEKODE X 10" SERIES

Memeplex Records is proud to announce the TIMEKODE X vinyl 10” remix series, highlighting the wild diversity of underground dance floor sounds emanating from Canada. Each release captures the energy of the legendary monthly TIMEKODE parties, celebrating 10 years of dance floor takeovers in Ottawa.

For this vinyl-only series, DJs Zattar and Memetic (the creative forces behind TK) channel their eclectic tastes into remixing new music from artists who share their open-format ‘soul moving soles’ philosophy.  The first instalment, touching down on December 4th, sets the tone, full stop.

TIMEKODE X Vol. 1 features two of Ottawa’s heaviest-hitting artists defining the next generation of forward-thinking soul:  The Souljazz Orchestra and Bonjay.

The Souljazz Orchestra are leading the global charge on revolutionary music. The Ottawa-based 6-piece is a whirlwind force on stage and on record, channelling the spirit of Fela Kuti into a transcendental jazz and soul explosion. "Kossa Kossa", from their massive new album Resistance (out now on Strut / Do Right!), was inspired by late 70s / early 80s West African disco and boogie music.

The TK Kossa Remix draws the cut into warm, house-inflected broken beat territory. Imagine starting your night at a Lagos disco in 1976 and winding up at a London afterhours in 2016.

Bonjay are on a level unto themselves. Hailing from Ottawa and now calling Toronto home, the duo tap into dancehall, twisted indie sentiments and soul hooks to create inimitable leftfield pop gems. “Ingenue” is the first taste of new material in years, slated for release on their highly-anticipated album Lush Life in 2016.

On the TK Dark Disco Remix, Bonjay’s signature vocal fire is kept front-row centre. The tempo moves to a disco heart beat, replete with trombone stabs, a thick bassline and some dirty electric guitar in the mix.
